Open Source Design

LiberArx is a company but, more importantly, it is also a mission. Our focus is on developing a high quality houseyacht which provides near complete physical self-sufficiency to the sovereign individual, digital nomad, or global explorer. At the same time, we are dedicated to making this project accessible to as many people as possible. While we will be offering fully constructed units for sale and working aggressively to drive down the price of these to make them as accessible as possible, we also support an open source community around this design. All of the design files for the LiberArx will be released on an open source basis. They will be shared via the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License meaning that anyone who wants to build their own vessel for personal use is welcome to do so. We retain only the rights to mass production and commercial sale of this design.

In addition to the accessibility provided by an open source design there are other advantages to this approach. For yachts, in particular, the owner is often required to make minor repairs and modifications themselves since they are infrequently near the manufacturing facility. Moreover this vessel is designed to last decades and serve anywhere in the world. Therefore it's critically important to the self-sufficiency and vision of our company that the owners have the full ability to maintain and modify their vessels as they see fit. Having access to the original design files will simplify maintenance, repairs and modification. Sovereign individuals should not have to rely on the original manufacturer to make modifications or repairs their vessel. Once you purchase the vessel it should be yours to use completely as you so desire. We support the right to modify and repair as you see fit, bearing in mind that owners are fully responsibile for their modifications and customization to the vessel.
